Die Vorlesung widmet sich zentralen Ausschnitten der politischen Ideengeschichte: Die Menschen- und Staatsbilder relevanter Epochen, die Forderungen nach Freiheit, Gerechtigkeit, Gleichheit, nach rechtlich gesicherter Friedlichkeit, nach Humanisierung der Rechtspflege, nach möglichster Selbstbestimmung durch Demokratie und Subsidiarität und die Idee der Menschenwürde beziehen wir auf die Regeln und Institutionen des deutschen und europäischen Verfassungsrechts. Auch das sich ¿konstitutionalisiernde¿ Völkerrecht wird einbezogen. Allgemeinphilosophische Fragen und das konkrete Öffentliche Recht berühren sich immer wieder in anschaulichen Fällen.
Allgemeiner Lesestoff wird in der ersten Vorlesungsstunde angegeben, spezieller im Verlauf des Semesters.
