230289 Teaching Specific Domains of English Language Competence (S) (WiSe 2005/2006)

Contents, comment

This course is aimed at students interested in teaching at Gymnasium level rather than Grund-, Haupt- and Realschule level. It will be practical in emphasis and aims to give students practice in planning lessons on a specific topic for a specific class (5-10) in the Gymnasium, presenting their lesson plans to the seminar group and, by means of the technique of micro-teaching, testing out their ideas on the seminar group, who assume the role of the class to be taught. The final stage will be discussion within the seminar group and the provision of feedback to the presenters. The traditional domains of English language teaching in schools will be covered (grammar, vocabulary, phonology plus reading skills, writing skills, speaking skills and listening skills).

Each week two students will together conduct the session.

Assessment will be by means of a written version of the lesson plan, plus commentary, evaluation of the micro-teaching and of the feedback obtained.

Students will be encouraged to use appropriate media in their presentations.

Students interested in teaching at Gymnasium level and who have English as Kernfach are advised to do this course before they do their teaching practice.
