The goal of this course is to give you more confidence and lots of practice in speaking English in public. At the beginning of the course, each participant will receive an assessment of his/her present level of conversational ability and some suggestions about how to improve. We will work on fluency, appropriate style, politeness and pronunciation. These goals are common to all of the Speaking courses offered in BM 1. But Speaking must always be about something. In this particular section, I would like to offer students who especially enjoy reading literature the chance to spend relatively more course time on talking about poems and stories and reading aloud scenes from plays. We will discuss literature and share our responses in social conversation rather than in strictly academic terms. 3 LPs will be awarded for class presentations and a final interview.
