220024 Antike griechische Geschichte und moderne sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien und Methoden (S) (WiSe 2022/2023)

Seitdem die Bücher-Meyer-Kontroverse und der Reaktivierung der Debatte unter dem Schlagwort „Primitivismus-Modernismus“ ihre Erklärungspotenziale erschöpft haben, ist die Alte Geschichte von einer Vielfalt an Zugängen geprägt. Insbesondere im Englisch-sprachigen Bereich haben sich sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien für eine Untersuchung antiker Phänomene etabliert. Die Veranstaltung möchte zunächst grundsätzlich Probleme und Chancen der Applikation von Theorien in der althistorischen Forschung benennen. Darauf aufbauen werden verschiedene Theorien angesprochen, darunter die Neue Institutionen Ökonomik, die Verhaltensökonomik in ihren verschiedenen Spielarten und die Akteur-Netzwerk-Theorie. Im Mittelpunkt steht jedoch die Erprobung von theoretischen Konzepten in verschiedenen Feldern, wie beispielsweise soziales und ökonomisches Verhalten, Wohlstand, Armut und Ungleichheit, innenpolitische Entscheidungsfindung und außenpolitische Beziehungen, Technologie und Innovationen.
