In diesem Modul sollen Methoden zum chemisch-ökologischen Arbeiten erlernt und Zusammenhänge in Ökosystemen begreifbar gemacht werden. Mechanismen von Wechselwirkungen zwischen Organismen werden einerseits in Freilandprojekten untersucht. Andererseits werden Effekte von abiotischen (z.B. Stickstoffverfügbarkeit) und biotischen (z.B. herbivore Insekten) Faktoren auf die Qualität und die Quantität pflanzlicher Inhaltsstoffe in Manipulationsexperimenten im Labor mittels chemisch-analytischer Methoden untersucht. In Biotests wird die Wirkung von Veränderungen der Pflanze auf andere Organismen überprüft und die Daten statistisch ausgewertet. Die Relevanz solcher Untersuchungen für die biologische Schädlingsbekämpfung wird diskutiert. Referat und Endprotokoll.
