Der Kurs soll den Studierenden die Fähigkeit vermitteln, selbstständige philosophische Texte zu verfassen, in denen für eine wohlbestimmte These nachvollziehbare Gründe vorgebracht werden. Dazu wird zu Semesterbeginn eine Liste mit Fragen aus der Moralphilosophie vorgelegt, aus denen sich die Studierenden jeweils eine zur Beantwortung aussuchen. Die Antwort in Form eines Essay von vielleicht drei Seiten wird im Einzelgespräch kritisiert, überarbeitet, wieder kritisiert, und so weiter, bis ein Text erreicht ist, der steht.
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung (im BA-Studiengang) werden drei akzeptable Essays erwartet.
