Transnational Migration in Asia is heavily meditated. Who is responsible for such a mediating process? How is migration facilitated and mediated? In this course, students would learn about how the process of transnational migration within Asia is shaped and facilitated not only by states policies and migrants' individual aspirations and capabilities but also by actors operating within a middle space - migration brokers. Different types, mechanisms, and roles of migration brokerage will be introduced and analyzed from multiple and critical perspectives. By the end of the course, students will have an extensive comprehension of concepts and frameworks regarding the study of the middlemen in migration as well as empirical understandings on how migration brokerage functions.

In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
