300087 The Logic of (Organizational) Research (S) (SoSe 2013)

Contents, comment

This seminar will be dedicated to discussing a range of classical and recent topics from the epistemology of sociological knowledge. The epistemology of explanation will be the focal topic for much of the literature which we will be considering, beginning from the 'Methodenstreit' and its more recent reincarnations. The increasing use of models and simulations in sociological theory will be another topic, as will be different ways of making use of empirical data, and, not at least, the status of theory (and theorizing) per se. Required readings will have a bias in favor of applications in organizational research.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
