In diesem Seminar wollen wir uns die Klassifikation der möglichen Symmetrien von periodischen Mustern und Ornamenten in der euklidischen Ebene, auf Bändern, auf Stäben, und eventuell in der hyperbolischen Ebene erarbeiten, ebenso wie die möglichen Symmetrien von Mustern auf der Kugeloberfläche. Neben abstrakt-algebraischen Argumenten sollen dabei soweit wie möglich auch anschaulich-geometrische Argumente zu Zuge kommen. Auch aus der Topologie werden wir uns einige Argumente ausborgen. Grundkenntnisse in Gruppentheorie sind dabei sicher von großem Vorteil, und letztlich unabdingbar. Das unbedingt Notwendige kann aber bei Bedarf auch im Selbststudium erarbeitet werden.
