In diesem Modul werden die Grundlagen gentechnischer und proteinchemischer Methoden und ihr Einsatz in Analytik und Produktion biotechnologischer Wirkstoffe und Diagnostika vermittelt. Die Themenbereiche umfassen aktuelle Methoden der Struktur- und Funktionsanalytik von Nukleinsäuren und von Proteinen sowie Verfahren zur Herstellung rekombinanter Proteine und Nukleinsäuren. Besondere Berücksichtigung finden eukaryotische Zellsysteme und ihre Verwendungsmöglichkeiten für pharmazeutisch interessante Zwecke sowie analytische Methoden für die biomedizinische Diagnose. Die Bedeutung angrenzender Fachgebiete wie Biochemie oder Bioinformatik für die Bio- und Gentechnik wird an konkreten Beispielen erläutert.
Parallel dazu findet eine Übung statt, die auf das Praktikum (Modul Praktikum Biotechnologie III) im nachfolgenden Semester vorbereitet.
