Vieles, was kleine Kinder im Gegensatz zu Erwachsenen noch nicht können, liegt in der Entwicklung ihres Gehirns begründet. Was können sie bereits erleben und leisten und was noch nicht, und wie hängt dies mit den neuronalen Grundlagen zusammen? Wie entwickeln sich Sprache, Sensorik und Motorik im reifenden Gehirn? Und welche schädigenden oder fördernden Einflüsse können dabei die Gesundheit des Kindes, die Intelligenz, sowie seine sozialen und emotionalen Fertigkeiten modulieren?
