Die Veranstaltung setzt an der vielzitierten Formel an, der zufolge Familie die primäre Sozialisationsinstanz ist. Hiervon ausgehend soll das vielschichtige Gegenstandsfeld Familie ergründet werden. Die Thematisierung und kritische Reflexion erfolgt auf der Grundlage einschlägiger Forschungsliteratur. Aufgegriffen werden dabei theoretische und empirische Erkenntnisse, die Auskunft geben z.B. über begrifflich-konzeptuelle Vorstellungen, historische Entwicklungslinien oder gegenwärtige Bilder familialer Lebensrealitäten und ihre Verwobenheit mit unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Teilbereichen. Das Seminar zielt darauf, einen orientierenden Überblick über gegenwärtige Perspektiven auf das Thema Familie zu vermitteln. Eine Annäherung an die mitunter komplexe und nicht immer spannungsfreie Betrachtung von Familie erfolgt zunächst ergebnisoffen und über deskriptive und analytische Zugänge.
