Das Seminar dient der Einführung in Forschungsansätze, die sich in systematischer Weise der soziologischen Relevanz alter und neuer elektronischer Medien widmen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf der Frage, wie die Vertreter der jeweiligen Ansätze das Medienthema „entdeckt“ und begrifflich-methodisch eingearbeitet haben. Im Mittelpunkt werden vor allem Vertreter der Frankfurter Schule, der Cultural Studies und der sozialkonstruktivistisch orientierten Medienforschung stehen. Ihre Kernargumente für eine soziologische Analyse der Medien sollen im Seminar mit Hilfe einschlägiger Texte erarbeitet und anhand ausgewählter Problemstellungen (z.B. Medien und Wirklichkeit / Medienproduktion und Medienrezeption / Medien und soziale Integration / Medien und Identität / Medien und Kritik) verglichen werden.
