Sachunterricht gilt als anspruchsvolles Grundschulfach, umfasst doch der Bildungsauftrag sowohl natur- als auch gesellschaftswissenschaftliche Wissensgebiete. Diesem Fach werden u.a. die Aufgaben zugeschrieben, zu einer selbstständigen Orientierung der Kinder in ihrer Lebenswelt beizutragen, sachgemäßes Wissen aufzubauen, sinnvolle Arbeitsformen zu vermitteln und nicht zuletzt anschlussfähige Grundlagen zu legen. Auf dem Hintergrund dieser vielfältigen Aufgaben ist der Sachunterricht als eigenständiger Lernbereich zu verstehen, der sich nicht aus der isolierten Perspektive einzelner Fachzugänge begreifen lässt. Um eine grundlegende Orientierung und Zielklärung zu ermöglichen, ist die Auseinandersetzung mit didaktischen Grundfragen notwendig.
