Seit Veröffentlichung der PISA-Studien, aber auch im Zuge der Corona Pandemie, sind im internationalen Vergleich die Schwächen des deutschen Bildungssystems deutlich geworden, weshalb gegenwärtig intensiv über Bildung und mögliche Reformen diskutiert wird. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht dieses Seminar die zentralen Funktionen und Strukturen des deutschen Bildungssystems. Im Fokus stehen dabei theoretische Beiträge und empirische Forschung, die sich auf Basis kausaler Modelle mit der Reproduktion sozialer Ungleichheiten in Bezug auf Geschlecht, Migrationsgeschichte und soziale Klasse durch das Bildungssystem auseinandersetzen. Des weiteren werden inter- und intragenerationale Mobilitätsprozesse angeschaut und wie Bildungsverläufe die spätere Erwerbsbiographie prägen.
