Im Zentrum des Seminars steht der gesellschaftliche Konflikt. Dabei geht es, im Gegensatz zum persönlichen Konflikt zwischen Personen, um Auseinandersetzungen zwischen gesellschaftlichen Gruppen – zum Beispiel ethnischen oder religiösen Gruppen – sowie zwischen Staaten und Staatenverbünden. Die Themenblöcke des Seminar befassen sich mit diesen unterschiedlichen Ebenen des gesellschaftlichen Konflikts: Im ersten Block werden wir Konflikte zwischen Staaten diskutieren, in einem zweiten Konflikte innerhalb von Staaten und in einem dritten Block Konflikte zwischen Gruppen. In jedem Block werden jeweils zunächst zentrale Theorien und Konzepte vorgestellt und anschließend empirische Beispiele beleuchtet.
