Niklas Luhmann hat einst vorgeschlagen, im Gegenstandsbereich der Soziologie drei verschiedene Typen von sozialen Systemen zu unterscheiden: Interaktionen, Organisationen, Gesellschaften und gesellschaftliche Teilsysteme. Die geplante Lehrveranstaltung dient der Einführung in den Gebrauch dieser Unterscheidung. Dabei soll es nicht darum gehen, die entsprechenden Teiltheorien nacheinander vorzustellen, sondern vielmehr darum, sie an demselben Thema miteinander zu verbinden. Geplant ist dies für Themen wie: Interaktion in Organisationen, Interaktion vor Gericht, Interaktion unter Fremden, Konflikte als Thema der Alltagsmoral, Ansätze zur einheitlichen Organisation der Gesamtgesellschaft oder wichtiger Teilsysteme, Trennung von Recht und Moral, usw.
