Contents, comment

This year the course MSc-23 will concentrate on demography and epidemiology of health-related problems in India and Bangladesh. For this purpose the latest Demographic and Health Survey data will be used. In the first part of the course (lectures 1 to 3), the basic information on the public health system and major health problems in these countries will be provided.
In the second part of the course, students will have a chance to analyse one of the relevant topics with the help of the DHS SPSS datasets. Theoretical and practical aspects of data analyses with SPSS will be provided in the lectures 4 to 12. During these lectures students will be encouraged to work on their own topics. The students work in small groups (max. 4 persons). No advanced knowledge of SPSS is required to participate in the course.

Learning objectives: This course will enable our students to understand some common health problems and diseases in the respective countries including their major risk factors. The participants will learn to develop research questions and study hyposthes relevant to their own study. They will also increase their analytical knowledge and skills regarding several statistical methods. At the end of the course the students will be encouraged to publish their findings in international peer-reviewed journals together with AG2.
