Die christliche Überlieferungsgeschichte ist weiter und andersartiger als die Dogmen- oder Ideengeschichte, aber auch als die geschichte der kirchlichen Institutionen. Sie führt an die Orte der Überlieferung (Katechetenschulen, Klöster, Universitäten, Druckereien) und weist deren Bedeutung für die religiös-theologischen Inhalte auf. Umgekehrt nimmt sie das Formenspektrum der Überlieferung in Augenschein - das Christentum ist voll Poesie und phantastischen Ideen. Um dies zu erschließen, braucht man die Kirchengeschichte und die Systematische Theologie ... (s. Anrechnung der Vorlesung).
Die Vorlesung fragt nach dem literarischen Charakter der Texte in kirchlichen, kulturellen und theologischen Zusammenhängen. So zeigt sich die Fülle des Überlieferten an Beispielen (Augustinus, Dante, Milton, Goethe), die Schreibarten der Theologie erweisen sich als vielfältig und ein kreativer Umgang mit Quellenarten und Medien des Christentums wird möglich. - Ein Programm voll Kundenbezug.
