230256 Um 1650: Die Trauerspiele des Andreas Gryphius im Kontext (S) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Ein Kaiser, der an Weihnachten am Altar ermordet wird; eine Königin, die sich auch durch Folter nicht beugen lässt; die Hinrichtung eines Königs. Andreas Gryphius ist mit Blick auf die heutige Schulbildung vor allem für seine Lyrik bekannt, verfasste aber auch bedeutende Trauerspiele – wir fokussieren uns auf ‹Leo Armenius›, ‹Catharina von Georgien› und ‹Carolus Stuardus› (von letzterem liegen zwei Fassungen vor). Sie sind vor dem Hintergrund nicht nur poetologischer Vorgaben – so etwa die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Gryphius zu Martin Opitz’ ‹Buch von der Deutschen Poeterey› –, sondern auch des Schultheaters und insbesondere auch des Jesuitendramas zu verstehen. Seine Trauerspiele zeigen einerseits grundsätzlich die Eitelkeit der Welt (‹vanitas mundi›), partizipieren in vielfältigen und spezifischen Hinsichten aber auch am philosophischen, rechtlichen und politischen Wissen der Zeit.
Das Spannungsfeld zwischen der Einbindung in einen religiösen Sinnzusammenhang und den Widerständen unbedingter Zeitgenossenschaft zeichnet sein Werk im besonderen aus. Im Seminar setzen wir uns mit den Dramentexten und ihren Kontexten auseinander und diskutieren dabei auch unterschiedliche Zugänge der Forschung.
