Preziosen ungeahnter Schönheit sind auf uns gekommen, und doch ist die Beschäftigung mit mittelhochdeutscher Literatur voraussetzungslos kaum möglich. Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über lyrische, epische und dramatische Texte des Mittelalters und versucht zugleich in die literar-, geistes-, medien- und sozialgeschichtlichen Voraussetzungen ihrer Entstehung und Rezeption sowie ihres heutigen Verständnisses einzuführen. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf dem Minnesang, dem Geistlichen Spiel und ausgewählten Gattungen der Großepik (Artus- und Gralroman, Antikenroman, Heldenepik) sowie auf deren narratologischer Analyse.
Es gilt, Texte zu entdecken, deren Sinnhorizont aus Vorgaben resultiert, die außerhalb ihrer selbst liegen, die aber doch auch einen beträchtlichen Eigensinn entwickeln können; Texte, die als genuine Werke eines Verfassers nicht unbedingt mehr zu greifen, sondern von den Wegen der handschriftlichen Überlieferung mitgestaltet sind; Texte, die aus heutiger Perspektive ‹fremd› wirken und doch immer noch ästhetisch faszinieren.

Die Vorlesungen werden aufgezeichnet und sind auch asynchron rezipierbar. Für die Studienleistung erarbeiten Sie in studentischen Arbeitsgruppen Kurzpräsentationen. Die Vorlesung wird ergänzt durch ein Tutorium, dessen Besuch nicht obligatorisch ist, aber empfohlen wird.
Für einen kleinen Teil (maximal 40 Studierende) besteht auch die Möglichkeit, die Vorlesung an der Universität im Hörsaal zu verfolgen.
