Das Ziel des Seminars ist es, Methoden zu erlernen wie man experimentelle Rohdaten, wie sie im Studium und in der Praxis oft auftreten, effizient auswertet und visualisiert. Dabei werden Themen wie Planung der Auswertung, grundlegende Datenexploration, Datenbereinigung, die Wahl der richtigen Datenanalysemethoden, Visualisierung, aber auch die Präsentation und Vermittlung der Ergebnisse behandelt. Das Erlernte kann sofort z.B. während der Bachelor- oder Masterarbeit angewendet werden.

Die während des Seminars behandelten Themen sollen von den Studierenden mit Hilfe von Arbeitszetteln eigenständig wiederholt werden. Die Arbeitszettel werden wöchentlich herausgegeben und sollen innerhalb einer Woche bearbeitet werden. Die Bearbeitung in kleineren Gruppen ist erlaubt. Die Themen des Seminars bauen stark aufeinander auf, so dass eine regelmäßige Teilnahme besonders empfohlen wird.
Zur Erbringung der Prüfungsleistung wird von den Studierenden eine Hausarbeit angefertigt. Diese kann entweder benotet oder unbenotet sein. Der Fokus wird dabei auf den Datenwissenschaften liegen.
