Bu ders Türkçe yazılmış bilimsel metinleri okumak isteyen ama bunları anlamakta zorluk çekenlere yardımcı olmak için hazırlanmıştır. Derste çeşitli bilimsel disiplinlerden seçilmiş metinlerin kolaylıkla anlaşılabilmesi için yöntemler gösterilecektir. İlk başta anlaşılması zor gibi görünen metinler, kısa bir çalışmayla ve doğru okuma yöntemleriyle anlaşılabilir hale gelmektedir.
Ders sadece metinleri anlamak değil, ayrıca onlar üzerine kendi görüşlerini ifade etmek isteyenler için de uygun bir ortam sunmaktadır. Sunumlar ve metin eleştirileri aracılığıyla katılımcılar için bilimsel düzeyde ilginç tartışmalar yaratmak dersin amaçları arasındadır. Dersin sonunda, katılımcıların Türkçe bilimsel metinleri daha kolay anlayabilmeleri ve metinler hakkında kendi görüşlerini bilimsel bir dille ifade edebilmeleri amaçlanmaktadır.
