Die Veranstaltung führt in zentrale Themen der Wissenschaftstheorie ein mit einem Schwerpunkt auf der Methodologie. Die Vorlesung ist in drei Hauptteile unterteilt:
1. Grundbegriffe und -probleme der Methodenlehre, bes. Unterbestimmtheit von Theorien und Duhem-Quine-These, und Theorieabhängigkeit der Erfahrung.
2. Klassiker der Methodologie, bes. Karl Popper; Thomas Kuhn; Paul Feyerabend.
3. Spezielle Probleme der Wissenschaftstheorie: wissenschaftlicher Realismus; Theorien wissenschaftlicher Erklärung; Theorienwandel; Rationalität und Objektivität; Bayessche Bestätigungstheorie; Science Wars.

Voraussetzung für die Vergabe von 2 Leistungspunkten (Bachelor Einschreibung bis SoSe 11 und Master of Education) ist die regelmäßige und aktive Teilnahme sowie das Erbringen des schriftlichen oder mündlichen Beitrags im Umfang von maximal 1200 Wörtern für das Modulportfolio, auf dem die unbenotete Moduleinzelleistung beruht. Die Anforderungen für den Modulportfolio-Beitrag werden zu Veranstaltungsbeginn bekannt gegeben.
