Nicht erst seit der 2006 erschienenen, populären Disney-Fernsehproduktion 'High School Musical' ist das Film-Musical als Genre in der Filmindustrie verankert. Die Schauspielerin Judy Garland war bereits 1939 in 'The Wizard of Oz' zu sehen und John Travolta wurde duch das Film-Musical 'Grease' (1978) erfolgreich. Dabei sind nicht nur die Musikstile facettenreich (von Rock und Pop, über Balladen bis hin zum HipHop), sondern auch thematisch vielfältig (Horror, Animation, Romanverfilmungen).
Doch was macht das Genre so ansprechend? Welche Funktionen haben Film-Musicals und nach welchen Strukturen sind diese Filme aufgebaut? Das sind Fragen, die unter anderem in dem Seminar behandelt werden sollen.
