Das Seminar beschäftigt sich vor allem mit den linguistischen Teildisziplinen der Phonetik und Phonologie. Während der Gegenstand der Phonetik die artikulatorische Beschreibung und physikalische Messung der Laute unabhängig von ihrem Sprachsystem ist, stehen in der Phonologie die lautlichen Strukturen als Einheiten im System einer Einzelsprache (in unserem Fall vornehmlich des Deutschen) im Vordergrund. Im Anschluss an diese eher theoretischen Überlegungen und Modellierungen werden die Erkenntnisse auf den Themenbereich der Orthographie übertragen und untersucht, wie/inwiefern sich Regeln der Rechtschreibung (und Interpunktion) auf grammatische Grundlagen rückbeziehen lassen. Hier entstehen Berührungspunkte mit der Phonologie, aber auch der Morphologie und Syntax.
