Der Kurs ist als Einführung in eine politische Soziologie auf systemtheoretischer Grundlage geplant. Zu diesem Zweck soll die Theorie des politischen Teilsystems der modernen Gesellschaft zunächst vorgestellt und sodann auf aktuelle Diskussionen über Populismus und politische Polarisierung bezogen werden.
Literaturgrundlage ist die aus dem Nachlass publizierte „Politische Soziologie“ Niklas Luhmanns; Auszüge des Textes werden im Lernraum bereitgestellt.
