Gegenstand des Seminars sind schulgeschichtlich bedeutsame Epochen von Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis zur Gegenwart, und zwar
1. Die Schule im Wilhelminischen Kaiserreich,
2. in der Weimarer Zeit,
3. im Nationalsozialismus,
4. in den Besatzungszonen nach 1945 sowie
5. in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und
6. in der DDR.Dabei werden vorrangig Entwicklungen berücksichtigt, die das Gymnasium und die Volksschule - später Grund- und Hauptschule - betreffen, und zwar sowohl was schulpolitische als auch ideengeschichtliche und ideologische sowie wirkungsgeschichtliche Gesichtspunkte betrifft.
