Preziosen ungeahnter Schönheit sind auf uns gekommen und doch ist die Beschäftigung mit mittelhochdeutscher Literatur voraussetzungslos kaum möglich. Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über lyrische, epische und dramatische Texte des Mittelalters und versucht zugleich in die literar-, geistes-, medien- und sozialgeschichtlichen Voraussetzungen ihrer Entstehung und Rezeption sowie ihres heutigen Verständnisses einzuführen. Im Zentrum jeder Sitzung stehen ein oder zwei Texte, die intensiv analysiert werden.
Es gilt, Texte zu entdecken, deren Sinnhorizont aus Vorgaben resultiert, die außerhalb ihrer selbst liegen, die aber doch auch einen beträchtlichen Eigensinn entwickeln können; Texte, die als genuine Werke eines Verfassers nicht unbedingt mehr zu greifen, sondern von den Wegen der handschriftlichen Überlieferung mitgestaltet sind; Texte, die aus heutiger Perspektive 'fremd' wirken und doch immer noch ästhetisch faszinieren.

Die Vorlesung ist auch in diesem Semester eine Kombination von synchroner Lehre (über Zoom) sowie asynchronem Selbststudium des Arbeitsbuches und der Erstellung von Kurzpräsentationen (nebst schriftlicher Dokumentation). Alle drei Bestandteile sind obligatorisch. Die Teilnahme an dem zugehörigen Tutorium hingegen ist freiwillig.
