Die wesentlichen Fragen der Verhaltensbiologie beziehen sich auf die Mechanismen, die die Grundlage des Verhaltens von Mensch und Tier bilden, sowie auf die Funktion von Verhalten. In diesem Projektmodul werden anhand theoretischer Beispiele sowie praktischen Experimenten mit Tieren solche grundlegenden Fragen aus dem Bereich der Partnerwahl, Kommunikation und dem Gruppenverhalten behandelt. Themen sind: wie sehen Signale aus, mit denen die Lebewesen miteinander kommunizieren und wie sie erzeugt, übertragen und empfangen; warum leben Tiere in Gruppen zusammen und welche Entscheidungsprozesse liegen Gruppenbildungen zu Grunde; wie werden Konflikte im Tierreich gelöst und unter welchen Bedingungen wird kooperatives Verhalten von der Evolution gefördert? Die praktischen Experimente werden an Singvögeln und Fischen durchgeführt.
