Im Vordergrund des Seminars steht die Lektüre von Bourdieus "Homo Academicus" (frz. 1984, dt. 1988). Anhand dieses Werkes wird erstens in die Bourdieusche Wissenschaftssoziologie, zweitens in die Theorie sozialer Felder eingeführt. Einleitend wird ein früher und einflussreicher Aufsatz gelesen (Bourdieu 1975), und gegen Ende des Semesters soll zusätzlich das Spätwerk der "Meditationen" (frz. 1997, dt. 2001) mit in die Diskussion einbezogen werden. Dabei interessieren insbesondere Bourdieus Vergleichsperspektiven, d.h. die Funktionsweise verschiedener "kultureller" Felder (Wissenschaft, Kunst, Philosophie, Religion) und die Art und Weise, wie diese mit den "weltlichen" Feldern der Ökonomie und der Politik interagieren.
