Hinweis:

The Lehrforschung "International Students as Brokers for Transnational Knowledge Flows" explores the role of former international students as intermediaries between industrial states on the one hand, and states in transformation and developing countries on the other hand. Brokers are those who have studied abroad, and who afterward remain in the country of immigration, engage in onward mobility, or return to their home countries. We analyze the ways and practices through which brokers transfer knowledge in cross-border social spaces between sending and receiving regions. More specifically, we focus on what kind of knowledge is transferred, whether knowledge relevant for development is exchanged, and by what means this is achieved. We also examine the forms of political regulation of mobility. The goal of this Lehrforschung is to achieve a better understanding of the role of transnational brokers in cross-border processes in the respective societies and, thus, comprehensively to evaluate the idea of ¿change by exchange¿. The category under observation is made up of international students from Turkey and an additional country (to be decided jointly by the participants in the Lehrforschung) who have completed their studies in Germany, and who now hold positions in the countries of their origin, in countries of onward migration, or in Germany.
