220148 Global Structures and Governance: Concepts and Controversies (AngSelb) (WiSe 2020/2021)

Contents, comment

This unit of the MA ‘World Studies’ compiles a list of lectures and videos that should be attended and watched in the course of your programme. You are encouraged to participate in the events, watch the videos, engage with the contents and ideas presented there and actively bring them into the discussions taking place in the lectures and seminars you attend during your programme.
Apart from independent and flexible ‘self study’, this unit also includes one session for the presentations (1 February 2021, 12 am, following the lecture).

Requirements for participation, required level

Student information

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.

‘Active participation’ (Studienleistung): in order to get credits (not marked!) for this teaching unit, you will have to do the following:
• Choose one of the lectures (see list below) you attended and write a 2 pages paper including a summary of the content and main arguments and your own thoughts about what the issues presented may (not) explain about “the world”.
• Choose 3 of the videos and engage with the question “what characterises ‘the world’ in terms of global inequality?” In groups of 2-3 students prepare a presentation (powerpoint or the like) to be presented for the other students.
• Based on everything you attended during the first semester, please summarise on 2 pages what were the key things you have understood, and what you hope to achieve in the second semester.
All documents need to be uploaded in the LernraumPlus – there will be a specific folder for that purpose.
