Im Mittelpunkt des Seminars steht neben theoretischen Aspekten vor allem auch die Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Ansätzen zur unterrichtspraktischen Umsetzung. Ausgehend von der Verortung des Sachrechnens in den Bildungsstandards und der Klärung der Ziele und Funktionen des Sachrechnens werden im ersten Teil verschiedene Typen von Sachaufgaben analysiert. Betrachtet werden das Rechnen mit Größen, die Bedeutung des Schätzens und Überschlagens sowie die mathematische Modellbildung, wobei auch auf Fragen zu geschlechtsspezifischen Aspekten und Lehr-Lern-Schwierigkeiten berücksichtigt werden. Im Zentrum des zweiten Teils stehen verschiedene methodische Zugänge (z.B. Rechengeschichten, Projekte, FERMI-Aufgaben, Sachaufgaben als Videoclips, Kinder erfinden eigene Sachaufgaben) die von den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern in Kleingruppen erkundet und ausgearbeitet werden.
