Contents, comment

This supplementary course gives an introduction to computer based data analysis. Most experimental data in behavioural and neurosciences is acquired and processed with a computer. Often it is useful to be able to adapt the software tools to the special needs of a project. Another increasingly important research tool are model simulations. Basic programming skills are therefore a key competence for scientists working with behavioural and neuronal data. One of the major tools for data analysis and visualisation is Matlab (www.mathworks.com), a numerical computing environment and programming language. Starting with basic concepts of programming and the usage of the Matlab environment, different examples for data analysis and visualisation as well as simple simulation models will be presented. The course is split into 15 units consisting of lectures and exercises. The entire workload (4 credit points, corresponding to 120 hours) will be achieved during the course time. Previous programming knowledge is not required.
