This course will focus on U.S. American Literatures and introduces first-year students to the basics of literary studies - the tools of the trade, as it were. Participants will be taught the terms and methods of analysis and interpretation of texts in the three main literary genres, poetry, drama and narrative.
The seminar will be accompanied by a tutorial in which students have the chance to repeat, discuss and practice the methods taught in the seminar.
There will be a voluntary TUTORIAL accompanying the lecture course. The tutor, Lars Wenzel, will introduce himself during the first session of our course. The tutorial will take place via Zoom on Wednesdays from 16:00-18:00h.
Students must obtain the following book:
Michael Meyer, English and American Literatures, 4th ed., Tübingen: Francke, 2011.
The book is available as an eBook via the OPAC of Bielefeld University Library.
