Note: This course will take place online through Lernraum+ and Zoom.
In this course we will study the Black experience in the U.S. through the eyes and voices of African Americans. Using excerpts from books, songs, films and poems we will trace the route of this experience from 1619 to 2020, from slavery to the era of segregation and the civil rights movement and finish the course with a look at the situation of Black Americans today, focusing on rap and hip hop, the Obama era and mass incarceration and the Black Lives Matter Movement and the changes taking place in the USA in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. This will be a very stimulating course in which you will learn a great deal about the unacknowledged history of the U.S.A
