A screenplay is the text from which a film or TV series episode is produced, similar to a stage play that is written for dramatic adaptation on the theatre stage. But much more than a stage play, the screenplay aims to create strong images for the big screen.
In this seminar, we will read a selection of screenplays either in full or in excerpts to study the specific forms that are used to create scene, action, character, dialogue, and dramatic arcs. We will also sometimes watch the corresponding scenes to analyse how exactly the script was adapted to screen.
You earn the Studienleistung for this class by submitting a number of writing exercises, some creative (write your own film scenes), some analytical (apply the critical terminology of our discipline).
Please note: You cannot complete a Modulprüfung in this seminar.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
