Der Begriff Emanzipation rückt in den 1960er Jahren im Kontext der Kritischen Erziehungswissenschaft in den Fokus bildungstheoretischer Überlegungen sowie bildungspraktischer Bemühungen. In diesen wird Emanzipation im Sinne von Aufklärung und gesellschaftskritischen Bewegungen des 19. Jahrhunderts als Selbstbefreiung verstanden und die Veränderungsbedürftigkeit gesellschaftlicher Verhältnisse betont. Hiervon ausgehend, fragt das Seminar auf Grundlage ausgewählter bildungstheoretischer wie -philosophischer Texte nach dem Zusammenhang von Bildung und Emanzipation. Dabei wird der Emanzipationsbegriff sowohl aus historischer Perspektive als auch auf einer systematischen Ebene erarbeitet. Zugleich wird unter Berücksichtigung gegenwärtiger bildungstheoretischer Annahmen und Auseinandersetzungen darauf eingegangen, inwiefern der Zusammenhang von Bildung und Emanzipation heute innerhalb der Erziehungswissenschaft problematisiert und verhandelt wird.
