This class will take place using distance learning tasks via Lernraum.

This class will introduce you to the various ways in which language varies in different contexts. For instance, we will look at how the same speaker uses language differently in different situations (e.g. talking to a close friend vs. giving an answer in class), and how the same speech acts are realised differently by different speakers (e.g. how do individual people apologise?).
