Homers Ilias ist eine der großen Fundamentalepen der westlichen Zivilisation. Sie spiegelt die Werte, Ängste und Hoffnungen der "griechischen" Eliten der archaischen Zeit. Inwieweit hinter dem Geschehen historische Ereignisse stehen, ist bis heute umstritten. Das Modul wird wesentliche Passagen der Ilias auf ihren historischen und literarischen Gehalt hin prüfen.
Als Textgrundlage empfehle ich die bewährte Übersetzung von W. Schadewaldt (mehrfach auch antquarisch als TB erhältlich). Als wissenschaftlicher Kommemtar ist der vom General-Editor G.S. Kirk herausgegebene mehrbändige Kommentar bei Cambridge University Press unentbehrlich.
