300457 Global Social Governance in Education Policies (S) (SoSe 2020)

Contents, comment

This seminar introduces into global health and education governance scholarship by focussing on the example of the Corona crisis.
The first part of the seminar is about basic approaches to global social, health and education governance studies, and looks at actors, governance and inter-actor relationships.
The second part engages with the key global actors (i.e. international organisations) engaged with health and education policies and how that looks like in the context of the Corona crisis. This includes the WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO, OECD and World Bank.
In the third part, we will discuss these actors, ideas and activities in comparison and in relation to each other.
A very good command of English is also necessary as all literature, lectures, presentations and discussions will be held in English.
I hope for a diverse group of students in terms of nationality and disciplinary backgrounds, interested in global politics, international organisations, social, health and education policy.
Literature and other material will be made available in LernraumPlus.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.

This seminar will be organised in a way to allow flexible studying on a weekly basis, in order to facilitate a meaningful learning process, but without fixed session dates.
Groups of 2-3 students will be built to work on the different international organisations and prepare presentations. All students will be required to join a group. You may prepare a powerpoint or similar presentation, but you may also video-tape or prepare a poster or introduce examples and questions for the others to work on, and the like.
More information have already been uploaded in the LernraumPlus.
