This course will help you to develop the writing skills you will need in your English studies at the university and in your personal and professional life afterwards. You will learn the formal characteristics of text types such as personal letters, business letters, job applications, short essays and summaries; you will learn to improve the structure and organization of your written work; you will improve your grammar and extend and refine your vocabulary so that you can communicate clearly, correctly, and convincingly.

There will be required weekly writing exercises that will be corrected and returned to you for discussion and revision. These will form the basis for the portfolio you will submit at the end of the semester for assessment of your progress. There will also be at least one in-class test of summary writing as preparation for the Proficiency Test to be taken in your 5th semester.
