Die antiken Auseinandersetzungen um Religion haben die Bahnen bestimmt, in denen sich die Diskussion bis heute bewegt: die Ablösung mythischer durch wissenschaftliche Erklärungen, die Ablösung eines Handelns nach göttlichen Geboten durch ein Handeln nach Einsicht, dann aber auch die Ausbildung neuer Formen von Religion in Aufnahme dieser Rationalisierungen. Das Seminar soll an ausgewählten Texten, von Xenophanes bis Augustin, diesen Prozess noch einmal aufrollen – aber um auf diese Weise zu verstehen, was Religion heute ist.
