Ausgehend von einer soziologischen Bestimmung der Interaktion als ‚Kommunikation unter Anwesenden‘ wird in dem Seminar der Frage nachgegangen, wie sich Kommunikation verändert, wenn sie nicht mehr face-to-face abläuft, sondern medienvermittelt (z.B. über (Video-)Telefon oder Instant Messenger). Vorgesehen ist eine Gliederung des Seminars in drei Teile: So steht am Anfang eine theoretische Bestimmung der Interaktion als spezifischer Kommunikationsform, um daran anschließend im zweiten Teil in Auseinandersetzung mit empirischer – vor allem konversationsanalytischer – Forschung Besonderheiten medienvermittelter Interaktionsformen zu erarbeiten. Im dritten Teil sollen die Studierenden dann selbst kleinere Erhebungen zu medienvermittelten Interaktionsformen vornehmen und die erhobenen Daten zumindest in Ansätzen selbständig analysieren.
