Die Frage des literarisch-politischen Engagements von Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftstellern der Gegenwartsliteratur (vornehmlich seit 1989) erhält momentan in der Forschung wieder verstärkte Aufmerksamkeit. Dies hängt wohl auch mit der in Europa angespannten politischen Lage, dem zunehmenden Rechtspopulismus und dem Bedürfnis vieler Künstlerinnen und Künstler zusammen, dazu Stellung zu beziehen. Künstlerkollektive, wie das Zentrum für politische Schönheit, engagieren sich explizit und ganz direkt. Literarisches Engagement, will es nicht einfach politische Agitation sein, verhält sich demgegenüber merklich anders. Im Seminar wird es darum gehen zu fragen, inwiefern die Texte von Autorinnen und Autoren wie Herta Müller, Terézia Mora, Katharina Hacker, Josef Haslinger und Michel Houellebecq (einem der wohl lautesten kritischen Intellektuellen in Europa derzeit) als kritische Stimmen der Gegenwart gelesen werden können, was dies genau bedeutet und wie sich literarisches Engagement bestimmen lässt und in den verschiedenen Texten entfaltet wird. Wir werden uns dabei auch Essays, Interviews, Petitionen u. ä. dieser Autorinnen und Autoren ansehen, in denen sie sich dezidiert zeitkritisch, politisch und / oder ihre eigene Arbeit und deren Aufgabe reflektierend äußern.

Die Voraussetzungen für dieses Seminar sind vor allem dies: Eine hohe Lesebereitschaft, regelmäßige Teilnahme und – wie sollte es bei dem Thema anders sein – aktives Engagement in den Seminardiskussionen.
Zudem ist eine Lesung und ein Seminargespräch mit dem Autor Josef Haslinger im Januar 2020 geplant. Die Teilnahme an beidem ist verbindlich!
Ein Seminarplan mit den entsprechenden Terminen wird rechtzeitig an alle Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer des Seminars verschickt!
