Aufmerksamkeit brauchen wir immer dann, wenn wir uns auf etwas Relevantes konzentrieren und dabei Irrelevantes ausblenden müssen. Viele Bedingungen die bestimmen, ob uns dies gelingt sind bereits gut erforscht. Unklar ist jedoch, wie unser aktueller Anspannungs- oder Entspannungszustand unsere Aufmerksamkeit beeinflusst. Um dieser Frage auf den Grund zu gehen, wenden wir Entspannungstechniken an, die in der klinischen Psychologie eingesetzt werden, und untersuchen ihren Einfluss auf experimentell gemessene Aufmerksamkeitsfunktionen.
