Eine wichtige Aufgabe des Geschichtsunterrichts ist die Konkretisierung der allgemeinen historischen Trends die im Unterricht bearbeitet werden, mit ausgewählten regionalen Beispielen.
Regionale Bezüge könnten z. B. mittelalterliche Siedlungsgeschichte, die Erkundung der Industriegeschichte vor Ort, die Stadtentwicklung, die Novemberrevolution, ausgewählte Beispiele der Geschichte des Nationalsozialismus und der Integration von Flüchtlingen in der Nachkriegszeit sein.
In der Veranstaltung möchten wir Orte und Problemlagen, die für die deutsche Geschichte „typisch“ sind, an Beispielen aus Ostwestfalen erarbeiten und erkunden. Sie stehen beispielhaft für fast überall findbare regionale Erinnerungsorte. Die Themen sollen von Studentengruppen vorbereitet und im Seminar präsentiert werden.
Themen: Mittelalterliches Leben und Archäologie – die Wellegrabung und die Sparrenburg, Industrie und Arbeiterleben, Novemberrevolution 1918 in Bielefeld, Machtergreifung in der Provinz, Judenverfolgung in Ostwestfalen, Krieg und Zerstörung, Aufbau und Entnazifizierung nach 1945. Es ist eine größere Exkursion (evtl. nach Berlin) vorgesehen
