Die Veranstaltung behandelt die Konzeption des sozialen Konflikts in ausgewählten soziologischen Theorien. Sie enthält drei Schwerpunkte: a) Grundlegende Ansätze in der frühen Soziologie (Lorenz v. Stein, Karl Marx, Ludwig Gumplowicz, Georg Simmel), b) die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Funktionalismus und Konflikttheorie in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren (Robert K. Merton, Lewis Coser, Ralf Dahrendorf) sowie c) Ansätze, die Konflikt als soziales System begreifen (Niklas Luhmann, Heinz Messmer, Tobias Werron). Es geht darum, unterschiedliche theoretische Wege zum Thema sozialer Konflikt aufzuarbeiten, zu vergleichen und zu bewerten. Ziel ist, zu einem besseren theoretischen Verständnis realer sozialer Konflikte zu gelangen.
