Warum wollen wir Kinder? Mollenhauer fragt dies als Intellektueller und Pädagoge in „Vergessene Zusammenhänge“ Und damit handelt es sich bei diesem Buch bereits zum Zeitpunkt seines Entstehens um einen Anachronismus. Mollenhauer schafft Anfang der 1980er Jahre einen (Problem-) kanon des Pädagogischen. Die Teile der pädagogischen Disziplin suchen ihre Unabhängigkeit; er sucht nach einem verantwortlichen und zu verantwortenden (theoretischen) Grund.
Seine Antwort „Vergessene Zusammenhänge“ erfolgt in der Betrachtung kultureller Zeugnisse und derer pädagogischer Interpretation (z. B. Kafkas Brief an den Vater) und es entsteht so (s-)eine Allgemeine Pädagogik.
Die Vergessenen Zusammenhänge können mittlerweile entschieden Klassikerstatus für sich beanspruchen. Mit ihnen läßt sich sowohl immer noch trefflich in die pädagogisch Grundproblematik einführen, als diese auch weitergehend erörtern, beides soll in diesem Seminar geschehen.
